the odyssey, richard lattimore

i am beginning my "odyssey" review. and i think i should probably do this before i continue reading "ulysses," or i might do them simultaneously.

ch 1:
hecatomb: in ancient greek ceremony, the sacrifice of a hundred cattle to the gods

poseidon, who is the only god angry with odysseus at the very beginning of the myth, is at a ceremony receiving a hecatomb from the aithiopians while all the other gods are at zeus' hall.

a map at this link shows the ancient greek concept of aithiopia, the southernmost 'inhabitable' region of the world: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aethiopia
